In Memorium
Sadly, the aikido world lost an important and influential member on July 4, 2001. Fumio Toyoda Shihan, founder and chief instructor of Aikido Association of America and Aikido Association International, passed away in Chicago, IL, following an illness. A memorial service for Toyoda sensei will be held during the AAA National Aikido Summer Camp in Palatine, IL, August 8-12. More information may be found at http://www.aaa-aikido.com.

Sensei Steven Williams, founder of Desert Wind Aikido of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away in late March, and in May, we lost Larry Lieberman, a dedicated student who trained in Boston and most recently in Washington, DC. Each will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the greater aikido community.

Several months ago I noticed two bright and enthusiastic martial arts students who seemed to be making it their business to attend as many seminars as they could possibly fit into their lives. I asked them if they would consider reporting on these seminars for our readers. Happily, the two young men consented, and Kevin Lam and Kaizen's first review appeared in our June issue. Appropriately, the title of their open-ended series is called "Here We Go Again..." And they do go.

This month they write, "The path we decided to take on the weekend of April 14th & 15th, 2001 was not the typical journey for most aikidoka. We would travel through stylistic borders into the world of Kodokan Judo and Kyokushin Kai Karate. We were to have the rare privilege of training with Jon Bluming sensei, president of the International Budo Kai Kan." The full story is on the Seminar Review page, and I'm sure you will appreciate it.
